The Improverts are, at 27 years old, the Edinburgh Fringe’s longest running improv comedy troupe and are put on annually by the Edinburgh University Theatre Company. They perform every Friday night at 10.30pm during Edinburgh University’s term time and half past midnight every night of Fringe at Bedlam Theatre to a packed house every time.
Each night a dynamic combination of players take to the stage for another round of spontaneous short-form improv games based entirely on audience suggestions. The show is unique owing to its fast pace, high-class tech team and creation of some of the group’s own games. The expert techies reflect the onstage comedy chaos and keep the players on their toes ensuring that “the pace is high and the energy never sags” (Fringe Review) and resulting in a show which is always different and always funny.
The Improverts boast a host of successful alumni including Radio 4 regular Miles Jupp, Mark Dolan, actor Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting), Humphrey Ker, Thom Tuck (Ker and Tuck making up comedy group The Penny Dreadfuls along with David Reed), Mitch Benn, photographer Idil Sukan, comedian David Elms, Maria Bamford, and many other talented writers, actors and comedians. Come along to spot the next big thing!
